Let’s clear up a few of the Biggest Credit Union Myths:
They aren’t big enough.
There are big and small credit unions, but just like banks, whether it’s big or small you can rest assured your deposits are insured by the federal government up to $250,000. Plus, some credit unions, like Heartland offer an additional $250,000 at no cost to you – that’s a total of $500,000!
It will be hard to access my money.
Heartland Credit union has access to a network of over 63,000 surcharge-free ATMs and 5,000 shared branching locations, making it easy for you to access your money anywhere.
I can’t join.
There’s a credit union for everyone. You may be eligible based on your employer, where you live, work, worship, volunteer, attend school or if you’re a family member of a credit union member. Learn who can join Heartland.
They don’t offer as many perks as banks.
Credit unions offer the same financial products and services as banks—checking accounts, debit and credit cards, IRAs (individual retirement accounts), home and auto loans, bill pay, online banking, mobile banking and more —but because they’re not-for-profit, they often offer better rates and lower and fewer fees than banks.
